The Community Garden

We are pleased to be in our tenth year as a community garden. With the help of volunteers and supporters, we have so far created 30 garden plots and growing areas.
The CLG Board of Directors estimate that many more garden plots of various sizes can be created. This includes having special growing areas. In addition, we have built some benches and shade areas. We continue to build additional shade areas with strucures and trees. we also need to build addiotional sheds and garden furniture to support member gardeners.
We have Volunteer Days where Volunteers help build garden plots, garden structures, and assist with garden planting, watering and maintenance. Our volunteers are the engine that keep our organization and garden growing and we are eternally grateful.
We continue to seek grant opportunities to upgrade our garden irrigation systems, fund our garden building, and support our education program workshops. We also continue to seek materials and lumber to build more garden areas. We accept any used or unused lumber in good shape. We especially need 2x4, 2x6, and 4x4s.
The Garden is centrally located within five miles of the cities of Reedley, Orange Cove and Dinuba on the Southwest corner of Manning and Crawford Avenues.
We have created a 501c3 nonprofit organization supported by the communities it serves and a committed Board of Directors. This structure and our growing community support base will ensure our long term sustainability and benefit to the community.
The American Community Gardening Association (ACGA) is a bi-national nonprofit membership organization of professionals, volunteers and supporters of community greening in urban and rural communities. The Association recognizes that community gardening improves people’s quality of life by providing a catalyst for neighborhood and community development, stimulating social interaction, encouraging self-reliance, beautifying neighborhoods, producing nutritious food, reducing family food budgets, conserving resources and creating opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy and education.

Volunteers and Interns

CLG VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIP PROJECTS

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not. ~Dr. Seuss
Volunteers are the lifeblood of nonprofit organizations. From their board of directors to the help needed to do the administrative and manual labor, volunteers keep the nonprofit going.
The CLG Board of Directors has created a volunteer program that provides the support to staff projects and events. New members wanting a garden plot can generate volunteer hours for initial plot rental and event discounts. Volunteers that generate these non-transferable hours can also use them on a variety of volunteer projects.
In our search for purpose, CLG provides opportunities for volunteers to participate in community service projects. Volunteers will continue to serve as a vital source of support and will ensure the long term sustainability of the community garden.

Garden Plot Adoption for New Members
Our plan is to focus on increasing our plot adoptions and membership. Individuals interested in adopting a garden plot the first season, can do so without cost. Most plots are raised beds and are 4 ft. by 8 ft. in size. If the person wants to continue a second season, we will request a paid membership per garden plot.
The cost to have a garden plot will range for members depending on the size chosen. The CLG Board of Directors will set the membership fees each year.
Group Gardening
We continue to encourage school or service organization groups that are interested in creating their own demonstration garden plots. We also seek interested family groups. We would ask a single membership and volunteer assistance in creating your garden plot. Please contact us if your are interested.
Volunteer Hours for First Plot
Volunteers that become first time members will be offered the choice of providing volunteer hours to reduce the annual fee for a garden plot. Individuals and families can choose to volunteer at volunteer events and assist with Garden maintenance.
We want to encourage first-time gardeners to consider their commitment while also volunteering to support Community Life Garden. We hope they become members who seek to enjoy the many benefits of gardening.
Please use the Contact Us page to let us know if your interested in adopting garden plot.
